On the first Monday in March, employees are recognized for their hard work. While there is a special day set aside to officially celebrate your employees, it is important to make sure your staff feels appreciated on an ongoing basis. Many bosses often forget to thank their employees for a job well done and to let them know they are a valued part of the organization. However, there are also plenty of bosses who consistently show gratitude to employees. Taking the time to show your employees that you appreciate them has been proven to improve engagement, retention, productivity, and morale.
When their superiors recognize them, people tend to flourish. It takes a team to be successful and retaining good employees can be a challenge. If you can complement them for their hard work, it can go a long way.
Here are a few additional ways to ensure they are happy and appreciated:
Praise them in person and on social media – A little praise can go a long way. Telling your employees, they are doing a great job is a great way to make them feel happy, if it isn’t overdone. You want it to be sincere and believable. Honoring work anniversaries and birthdays on social media is another way to make your staff feel important.
Host events for the entire company – A great way to make your team feel important is to host events for everyone. Not only is this fun, but it makes everyone feel appreciated, and helps with team building. A positive, fun and flexible workplace allows most employees to get the work done and feel that they are a valued part of a team.
Create an employee recognition program – Establish an employee recognition program to recognize staff members throughout the year. Verbal recognition is great, or you can take it a step further by giving rewards and incentives to team members who stand out the most. Consult with your employees to determine what type of staff recognition program would be most desirable to them.
Celebrate birthdays – One of the easiest ways to show your staff they are appreciated is to celebrate birthdays. All you need is a cake and a few minutes to sing Happy Birthday and you’ve made their day.
There are multiple ways to demonstrate how much you value your employees, and a little recognition can do wonders to promote a happy, productive work environment.
